Sabbavarapu V. S. Rao is a contemporary Indian sculptor whose artistic practice explores the relationship between material, memory, human experience, and the evolving environment. Through sculpture, installation, and mixed-media approaches, Rao creates works that bridge traditional craftsmanship with contemporary artistic expression.
Born in Andhra Pradesh, India, Rao completed his Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) in Sculpture from Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi, in 2015, after earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) in Sculpture from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, in 2012. His artistic journey has been marked by continuous experimentation with stone, metal, ceramic, wood, and public art practices.
Over the years, Rao has participated in numerous national and international exhibitions, sculpture camps, residencies, and public art projects. His works reflect a deep engagement with form, texture, space, and cultural narratives, resulting in sculptures that are both visually compelling and conceptually rich.
Today, his practice continues to contribute to India’s contemporary art landscape through exhibitions, public installations, workshops, and collaborative projects across the country.
